closing this register

Two places to go. The first is my Facebook notes. Let me know if that link doesn't work for some reason. I will keep posting personal stuff there.

I also opened up the promised blogspot blog. I am going to work on having more professional/technical posts there. I have threatened that before. We will see what happens.

For the last time

I am done here. Livejournal, you have hijacked my right-click for the last time. Like a jealous lover, you won't allow the onclick event to bubble up to Firefox. Its spell check in contextual menu makes you ashamed to be what you are. You try to hide by keeping me from the truth. There does not need to be a postback between me and the corect spelling of correct. Blogspot, be gentle with me, I've been hurt before.

TiVo is up and running

The TiVo HD is all setup and running. It is great so far.

Annetta records PBS shows like Antiques Roadshow. This plays frequently and at some odd times. It records it whenever it is on, with no duplicates. She watches it when she has time.

I record Lost which airs during our small group. After small group is done, we watch the episode. After we fast forward through commercials, it takes about 45 minutes.

We record shows that the kids like and we like. This way when Asa needs a nebulizer we are not at the mercy of whatever happens to be on.

I will post about other things that I like about it as they come to me.

Right now you can get a refurbished TiVo HD for $199.99. That's $100 less than what I paid for mine. Its a pretty good deal. If you decide you are going to pull the trigger, please put in my email address for a referral bonus.

If you want to know more about TiVo, tivolovers has a ton of good info. Its run by [info]zonereyriewho also runs [info]tivolovers.

She's coming home

My lovely wife is currently having her staples removed and she will be coming home later today. So if you haven't had a chance to visit her just yet, you missed your shot. ;) It looks like she will be coming home sometime this afternoon. I got into work early today, so that I could leave early and take her home. I am really excited.

She is still in a lot of pain. The nice part about being at home is that recovery usually goes much faster. The familiar and comfortable surroundings put the body at ease and facilitate healing. (I believe that's a big part of the argument for home births.)

I would imagine she will stay pretty immobile for a couple of weeks. We will keep you all posted. Thank you so much for all of your prayers, and visits, and support.

Diet restrictions lifted

Annetta's diet restrictions have been lifted. If you have been waiting to visit because you wanted to bring chocolates, now is your time.

Slow and steady wins the race

Annetta's recovery is taking longer than anticipated. She is getting better by the day, but slowly. She is still in the hospital. They are weaning her off of IV pain medication to oral medication. She is eating full liquids now. So her diet is more interesting than nothing, but she still can't eat much of anything fun. She is too sore to do fun laid up stuff like paint her toenails. Apparently after a week cable has lost its charm as well.

She has also had a slow but steady stream of visitors. The kids had the stomach flu over the weekend. Then I had it early this week. That meant that we couldn't visit her as much as we would have wanted.

She would love to have anyone who is able come and visit her. Here is a google map that I have put together that tells you where to park and where to go.

Slow road to recovery

Well Annetta is feeling slowly better. On Saturday she was feeling great. On Sunday she started feeling more pain. She finally passed gas. That was a big milestone. When the intestines are touched, they stop working. It takes them a while to "wake back up." On Monday she was still in a lot of pain. They did a CT scan. She has an ilias (but I like to call it an illiad ;) That means that a part of the colon hasn't woken back up yet. So things get stuck at that point and cause her pain. Things are a bit better today. She has started clear liquids and that is that working well. She is feeling better. It is just taking longer than expected.

She would still love to have anyone who can, come and visit her.

Fewer tubes

When we started Annetta had 4 seperate tubes and wires connected to her. Now she is down to just one. That is really nice. It allows her a lot more mobility. Her pain had been under much more control, thankfully. She took 4 short walks yesterday and spent several hours sitting up in a chair. Those are all things that will contribute to moving gas along. That is our next goal. The intestines stop working whenever they are touched. Once Annetta passes gas, that means her intestines are working again and she can start eating.

She is getting stir crazy in the hospital and is very eager to have visitors. Her friend Eufrasia from Duluth stopped by yesterday with her husband James. It was really nice to see them.

Stop by whenever you get a chance. She will be there.

Sitting up

Annetta is now sitting in a chair, which is a big step forward. She is not walking just yet, but that will come soon.

They have most of her pain under control now. If you would like to come by and visit her she would really appreciate it. She is in room # 410 at St Joseph's. I won't be posting her phone number because she still isn't that mobile and can't reach the phone much of the time. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call. So just stop by whenever you get the chance. Her pain comes and goes. She will tell you if she is hurting too much to be good company.

In other news, our kids all have the stomach flu with vomiting and diarrhea. I would really appreciate any prayers that you could offer in that direction. The hardest part is that they can't go and visit her now because we don't want them to get her sick.

Good times, noodle salad.
